Roadworthy Certificates in Brisbane
Supreme Automotive offer convenient, reliable roadworthy inspections and safety certificates. In the state of Queensland, a roadworthy is legally called a safety certificate, and is required when transferring or reregistering a Queensland plated car. If you are located in the Jindalee, Kenmore, Oxley or surrounding areas and require a safety certificate to register or sell a vehicle, Supreme Automotive can help.
When do I need to get a roadworthy inspection/safety certificate?
A safety certificate is designed first and foremost, to ensure safety on the road, and to also protect new buyers from purchasing unroadworthy cars. In Queensland, you are required to have a safety certificate to:
- Transfer registration to a new owner
- Offer a light vehicle for sale
- Transfer an interstate registration to a Queensland registration
- Reregister an unregistered vehicle
What does a roadworthy inspection cover?
To be issued with a safety certificate your car must past a roadworthy inspection. The inspection looks at the following areas:
- Seats and restraints
- Lights and electrical components
- Body, chassis and frame
- Steering and suspension
- Wheels and tyres
- Engine, driveline and emissions
- Vehicle safety features
- Windscreens and glazing
- Tow couplings
Roadworthy inspections follow standardised vehicle inspection guidelines, with each component required to meet minimum standards to receive the safety certificate.
How long will my roadworthy inspection take?
In general, a roadworthy certificate will take between 30 – 45 minutes, however this can depend on the car and its condition. Please check with our staff when you deliver your car to get a better idea of how long you will need to allow for your inspection.
What happens if my car doesn’t pass the roadworthy inspection?
If your car doesn’t pass the first inspection you will be provided with a detailed inspection list and notes of required repairs or services. You then have fourteen days to follow up with any required repairs at a mechanic of your choice before returning to us for your second inspection and to receive your safety certificate. For maximum convenience and to save on time, we recommend booking the vehicle in with us to complete your repairs and issue your safety certificate at the same time.
How long is my safety certificate valid for?
Your safety certificate will be valid for 2 months, or 2000km, whichever comes first.
