Car Safety Inspections

AIS 10216

In Queensland, before you can register a vehicle, or at the time of transferring a vehicle, you need a safety inspection, otherwise known as a roadworthy certificate. Supreme Automotive is bound by a Code of Practice, Vehicle Inspection Guidelines which prescribe the vehicle’s safety requirements of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995. The broad categories of safety inspections at an automotive workshop include:

  • vehicle identification by way of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and the engine number

  • vehicle road test

  • inspection of seats and restraints

  • inspection of lights and electrical components

  • inspection of windscreen and glazing

  • inspection of body and chassis

  • inspection of brakes including a brake report

  • inspection of tyres and wheels

  • inspection of any modifications

  • inspection of the engine, driveline and suspension components

A safety inspection does not verify the condition of an engine, transmission or final drive. For further clarification on the Queensland Safety Inspection scheme, please visit the Department of Transport www.qld.gov.au/transport/registration/roadworthy.
